Virtual Sun No. 0027
A bent arm of black locust holds a brass-framed box on a red cord. Inside, a high-spectrum LED is focused through a Fresnel lens into a luminous sphere that appears to hang at a depth the box cannot contain.
The form takes from two devices at once: the lantern, which carries light into the dark, and the fishing rod, which lowers bait toward its prey. Like the anglerfish with its glowing lure, the work dangles light in front of itself. Here the catch is human attention.
Daylight as bait.
