Rain Machine V02

Installation consisting of modules, each a machine producing a rain-like flow of water onto burned terracotta.
Water is being pumped from a water tank into hoses with holes in the top part of the machine. These holes distribute the water throughout the machine, with some water being dispersed onto the floor as well. The water falls through the terracotta onto a ramp, that funnels the water back into the tank.
The machine creates a sensation that echoes that of rain. With the waterdrops falling, the sounds of rain are produced. The terracotta absorbs the water, creating microsounds of bubbles (not unlike Champagne). The water being (re)cycled, algaes are slowly forming throughout the installation, producing a smell resembling that of rain. The air moisture rises, creating a thick atmosphere in the space. The pump and system create sounds of machines and microvibrations, rumbling through the whole system.
Written as a chamber music composition, each module has its character, with specific timbre, intensities and qualities. The exhibition space is transformed into a sort of temple.
