Extinct Birds
Extinct Birds is a body of sound works built around the recorded voices of bird species that no longer exist. Ten species are the only extinct birds for which audio recordings survive — a narrow archive of what has been lost.
The series approaches extinction not through image or text but through sound: the precise acoustic absence that follows a species' silencing. Each work treats technology as both preserver and agent of disappearance — the recordings exist only because the birds were already gone or going.
The works appear in two formats: the multichannel Concerto for ten speakers, and the single-voice Solosuite modules that fall silent when approached.
